Calendar for Critical Causes

Overview

Select a cause you are passionate about and create a typographic-inspired 12 month calendar, that is visually compelling and promotes awareness about the cause.
Each month will highlight a different fact, person, or historical event about the cause, that relates to the corresponding month. The calendar will also serve a dual purpose, giving the calendar a second life.

PROCESS/RESEARCH:

The topic I choose to bring awareness to is Banned Books. I choose this cause since there is a long history behind it, as it still occurs today. I believe there is an importance to freedom of information, and being exposed to different viewpoints. I aim to provide viewers information about what historically has occurred surrounding book bans and what that means. I began with research about Banned Books, and what historical events have occurred from the past till the present

TYPEFACES & COLOR:

I wanted to showcase the information in a clean and structured grid. The typefaces chosen for the month side of the calendar is a mix of serif and sans serif to express a simple layout with an emphasis on the highlighted information, using the sans serif.

The dual purpose side is to be served as a quote poster to be put up on display after each month passes. The four of typefaces chosen is to provide variety to each poster, along with four different colors.

The color palette on the front is to express the emotions of a book. The off white color found in books, and a muted green and orange to complement.

FRONT & INSIDE COVER

The inside cover showcases a pattern of banned/challenged books and the author.

MONTH

Date and corresponding month is highlighted in orange to inform readers about the cause.

DUAL PURPOSE POSTERS

Quotes from authors, novelists, and writers expressing the importance of literature.
